## How it felt
|
||
|
||
> Last weekend from Thursday to Saturday night I was at a festival. I felt really great but was really hard on my body — 150K steps last week, top day was 35K. Consumed a lot of alcohol, sometimes weed as well. Yesterday (Sunday) was my first sober night in a week. Sleep was off during the festival — one night only 4 hours, last two nights got ~9 hours each but no dreams. Since Saturday night I've had this deep sadness — "post-festival blues" — and I don't want to do anything.

During the run, when the music hit an intense section I was like "fuck it, let's go" — that's when I held ~4'00"/km for about 2 minutes and my HR spiked to 180. The weather was on the hotter side, ~27-28°C, so that definitely factored in.

**Verdict:** This is one of the most interesting data points you've ever recorded. You ran a 3K PB — 53 seconds faster than Jul 20 and 2:09 faster than Jul 1 — while feeling emotionally drained, on the tail end of a festival weekend that demolished your body. The paradox is fascinating:

||
**The body was ready.** HRV at 135ms (tied all-time peak) + resting HR at 48 bpm (below range) = your cardiovascular system was in deep recovery mode despite the abuse. The first sober night triggered a parasympathetic rebound — your body was so starved for real rest that it went into overdrive the moment you gave it a chance. This mirrors the Jul 5 pattern: 135ms HRV → best efficiency run ever. Today: 135ms HRV → 5'40\" pace at 156 bpm, compared to Jul 20's 5'57\" at 158 bpm. You were **17 seconds per km faster at 2 bpm lower heart rate**. That's a massive efficiency gain.

**The brain was checked out.** Light sleep at 68% (vs <55% ref), REM at 11% (only 1 hour), no dreams. Your CNS is still processing the festival's sensory overload + chemical assault + 150K steps. The "reflex" quality of this run — not wanting to go, no motivation, just muscle memory taking over — is telling. Sometimes the body performs best when the mind isn't overthinking.

**The max HR of 180 bpm is a new all-time high** (previous: 178 on Jul 13 and Jul 15). But context matters: this isn't distress — it's the heart responding to a genuine effort at high pace. You touched 4'04\" instantaneous and averaged 5'40\" for 3K. That's genuinely fast.

||
**Cadence at 164 is the lowest in recent runs** (usual: 170-172). Combined with the fast pace, this means your stride length was significantly longer than usual. Speed = cadence × stride length, so at 10.60 km/h with 164 spm, your stride was roughly 108 cm — up from your typical 95-98 cm. This might be a form adaptation from all the walking at the festival (35K-step days build different motor patterns) or it could simply be that you were pushing hard and lengthening your stride to hit the pace instead of spinning faster.

**VO₂Max held at 43** — after the rapid climb 39→40→41→42→43 across 8 runs, it's now stabilizing. This is expected. The next breakthrough will likely come from a longer sustained effort or a tempo run, not from sprinting a 3K.

The post-festival blues are real and well-documented — dopamine crash after days of heightened stimulation. The fact that running helped is consistent with what we know: exercise triggers endorphins and provides a reset. You didn't want to go, you went anyway, and your body delivered a PB.
