Sleep — Night before

Third sober night in a row, HRV back in the 110-135 excellent zone after the 29ms disaster on Aug 9. Resting HR 44 is below his personal range — deep parasympathetic state. Sleep slightly short (6h33) with a late bedtime (00:07), but the trade was deliberate: early rise to run. See Sleep/2026-08-11.

Verdict: This is a smart re-entry run, not a performance run — and that's exactly right after a 13-day break bookended by a brutal drinking weekend (HRV 29ms on Aug 9). The signature is all over the data: 6'45" pace at only 142 bpm avg HR is the most relaxed effort-to-heart-rate profile in weeks, with zero time spent redlining. Cadence 164, GCT 310ms, near-perfect balance — the form held up fine at easy effort.

Three things stand out:

  1. The HR discipline is the real win. 142 avg / 158 max on a 2.43km run vs. 158 avg / 171 max on the Jul 29 sharpie at nearly the same distance. He didn't chase pace on day one back — that's the "never miss twice, first week back = 50%" philosophy executed in practice. The 6'44" final km shows there's still a gear in reserve.

  2. VO₂Max jumped 43 → 45. A two-point jump on a single easy run is almost certainly watch recalibration after the break (and possibly from fitness carried through the active festival weekend), not a single-run gain. Treat it with a grain of salt — but the direction aligns with the trend (39 → 45 since Jun 29).

  3. HR recovery 23 bpm — solidly back in his 21-25 comfort zone, consistent with the sober streak paying off.

The only friction point: 6h33 sleep with a 00:07 bedtime is still on the late side — the watch flagged multiple late bedtimes in the past 7 days. That's the one pattern to keep an eye on as the running routine rebuilds; a couple of nights closer to 23:30 would put the morning runs on a genuinely rested base.

Clean restart. The streak clock restarts today. 🏃
